Iridium vs Fitbod
Both apps use AI to generate workouts. But the AI approaches are fundamentally different — and so is the rest of the feature set.
TL;DR
Choose Fitbod if you want variety in exercise selection, are newer to lifting, and prefer an Android-compatible app.
Choose Iridium if you want recovery-aware programming that respects per-muscle fatigue, volume science (MEV/MAV/MRV), nutrition tracking, and a full Apple Watch experience.
How their AI is different
This is the key distinction. Both apps use AI, but they optimize for different things:
Fitbod's AI
Rotates exercises based on muscle groups you haven't hit recently. Good for variety and ensuring you don't neglect body parts. But it doesn't track whether a muscle has actually recovered from its last session — just that some time has passed.
Iridium's AI
Tracks per-muscle recovery percentage based on your training history, volume, and wearables data. Only suggests exercises for muscles that are ready to train. Knows the difference between "you haven't trained chest in 3 days" and "your chest is still recovering from Tuesday's heavy session."
What Fitbod does well
- Exercise variety. Fitbod keeps your training fresh with new movements. Good if you get bored easily.
- 1,600+ exercise videos. Massive library with HD demonstrations.
- Cross-platform. iOS and Android.
- Established brand. Large user base, lots of reviews, well-known in the space.
- Content marketing. Fitbod's blog dominates search for AI fitness app keywords.
What Iridium does that Fitbod doesn't
- Per-muscle recovery tracking. Fitbod uses time-based rotation. Iridium uses actual recovery data.
- Volume landmarks (MEV/MAV/MRV). The science of optimal training volume, tracked automatically. Fitbod doesn't measure this.
- Nutrition tracking. Built-in barcode scanning, AI food logging, macro tracking. Fitbod is workouts-only.
- Apple Watch app. Full Watch app with set logging, rest timers, plate calculator. Fitbod has no Watch app.
- Superset logic. Iridium pairs antagonist muscle groups intelligently. Fitbod doesn't program supersets.
- Achievements/gamification. 36+ achievements like "1000lb Club" and "PR Hunter."
