Iridium vs Fitbod

Both apps use AI to generate workouts. But the AI approaches are fundamentally different — and so is the rest of the feature set.

TL;DR

Choose Fitbod if you want variety in exercise selection, are newer to lifting, and prefer an Android-compatible app.

Choose Iridium if you want fully personalized workouts that adapt to every set in real time, built-in nutrition tracking, and an AI coach you steer with your own custom instructions.

How their AI is different

This is the key distinction. Both apps use AI, but they optimize for different things:

Fitbod's AI

Rotates exercises based on muscle groups you haven't hit recently. Good for variety and ensuring you don't neglect body parts. Its "fresh muscles" model estimates recovery from your training load and time elapsed — but it doesn't factor in biometric signals like HRV, sleep, or resting heart rate.

Iridium's AI

Tracks per-muscle recovery percentage based on your training history, volume, and wearables data. Only suggests exercises for muscles that are ready to train. Knows the difference between "you haven't trained chest in 3 days" and "your chest is still recovering from Tuesday's heavy session."

What Fitbod does well

  • Exercise variety. Fitbod keeps your training fresh with new movements. Good if you get bored easily.
  • 1,600+ exercise videos. Massive library with HD demonstrations.
  • Supersets & circuits. Fitbod auto-programs supersets and circuits, normalizing weight between paired movements.
  • Apple Watch app. Log sets, run the rest timer, and track heart rate from your wrist.
  • Cross-platform. iOS and Android.
  • Established brand. Large user base, lots of reviews, well-known in the space.

What Iridium does that Fitbod doesn't

  • Real-time set adaptation. Iridium adjusts your remaining sets mid-workout based on how each set actually goes — heavier when you're crushing it, lighter when you're grinding. Fitbod's targets are fixed once a workout is generated.
  • Fully personalized workouts. Every session is built around your goals, equipment, history, and recovery — not exercise rotation off a generic template.
  • Steerable AI coach. Write custom instructions ("prefer barbells," "no overhead pressing") and Iridium follows them every session, plus a chat coach that remembers your preferences and injuries. Fitbod has no conversational coach.
  • Nutrition tracking. Built-in barcode scanning, AI food logging, macro tracking. Fitbod is workouts-only.
  • Volume landmarks (MEV/MAV/MRV). The science of optimal training volume, tracked automatically. Fitbod tracks raw volume but doesn't map it to these landmarks.
  • Biometric recovery tracking. Iridium builds a daily Readiness Score from HRV, sleep, and resting heart rate. Fitbod estimates muscle freshness from training load only.
  • Achievements. 36+ unlockable badges, if that's your thing.
